Final RC213V-S to be unveiled on Thursday
Honda to release pictures and details of road-going RCV at 10am on June 11.
THE final version of the long-awaited RCV road bike will be revealed next Thursday, sources at Honda have confirmed.
The final production model has already made its public debut in Japan, ridden by HRC factory test rider Hiroshi Aoyama in Sunday’s Asama Hill Climb, a popular annual parade of exotic machinery on closed public roads.
Official details and pictures of the RC213V-S will be released at 10am on June 11, before an exhibition lap at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Rumours suggest two-time world champion Casey Stoner will perform a parade lap on the machine ahead of next weekend’s MotoGP round at the Spanish circuit.
There’s little evidence of change since we saw it as a prototype at the Eicma Milan show in November last year. Honda has said it will share many components with the RC213V MotoGP bikes raced by Dani Pedrosa and world champion Marc Marquez, including the chassis, wheels, swing-arm, fork, shock and fuel-injectors.
The 1000cc V4 engine will produce 210hp. It’s been adapted for road use and improved reliability, losing the race bike’s pneumatic valves. Nevertheless the RC213V-S is likely to be as close as you can get to a championship-winning MotoGP bike for public roads, with a price to reflect it.
A daily Japanese newspaper reported in January that it would cost 20 million yen (£112,000) and share many mechanical components with the championship-winning RC213V.
We’ll have all the details and pictures at 10am next Thursday.
