KTM said to be developing Duke 390-based adventure bike

KTM HAS shipped two prototypes of a new Duke 390-based adventure bike to India for development, according to a car website.

The prototypes are codenamed KT22 and share the Duke 390’s 373cc single-cylinder engine and steel chassis but have longer-travel suspension to add off-road ability, according to the Indian car site.

They also have a screen, hand-guards, mounts for luggage boxes, a new headlamp, higher exhaust and more comfortable seat, reports CarTrade.com.

The Duke’s 42.9hp engine may be retuned to make it more suited for off-road use. Gear ratios of the 390 adventure model may also be altered according to the site.

The Duke 390 is already used as the basis for the fully-faired RC 390. The range, which also includes a Duke 125 and RC 125, is built in India.

In late 2013 a camouflaged Duke-based supermoto was photographed in Austria, home of KTM, but the machine has yet to be seen again.
