Return of the Cagiva Elefant, but with a twist

MV AGUSTA boss Massimo Bordi, the former Ducati chief who now runs MV on behalf of its owner Claudio Castiglioni, has reportedly confirmed something we have long since suggested; that MV is likely to build a new adventure bike.

Back in February we revealed that the firm had applied for a new trademark on the name “Elephant” and now it seems that won't just be the name of the bike but the name of an entire brand.

Harking back to the old Cagiva Elefant (which used the Italian spelling of the word) the new Elephant is expected to have a purpose-made V-twin engine of around 1200cc.

Speaking to Australian Motorcycle News, Bordi confirmed that the firm needs an adventure bike to meet its production goals and that such a machine would be a Cagiva rather than an MV. However, he also suggested that the Elephant could be “a brand in itself... Like Monster became a brand within Ducati.”
