2025 Yamaha MT-07 Arrives With Automatic Gearbox
First launched in 2014, the new 2025 Yamaha MT-07 gets its most significant updates since then, including the option of an automated manual transmission
Dubbed the “dawn of a new darkness” the Yamaha MT-07 model is getting more tech, more spec and more style than ever before.
After rolling off the production line in 2014, Yamaha’s naked middleweight has maintained its stance as one of the best-selling bikes in Europe since its inception ten years ago, but significant changes have arrived in a bid to make the MT-07 even more irresistible.
Along with the new, revamped manual MT-07, a Y-AMT-equipped version of the MT-07 has also arrived. Yamaha’s new Automated Manual Transmission was first launched on the MT-09, and the Japanese brand has unsurprisingly opted to introduce it again on the more junior naked model.
The AMT system eliminates the need for a manually operated clutch and gives the ride the option of choosing between manually shifting through a finger-operated lever mounted on the left-hand side of the handlebars, or by enjoying a fully automated shift in one of two AT modes.
The AMT function aimed at delivering a more accessible and user-friendly motorcycle. The new feature comes with two options, those being D and D+, which provide the availability of two different shift patterns.
D will deliver a balanced shift pattern for everyday riding, while D+ offers a more sporty feel with upshifts coming higher in the rev range. The Y-AMT technology works together with the MT-07 YRC ride modes, allowing the power characteristics and traction control settings to match the kind of riding demanded by the rider. The MT-07 Y-AMT also features cruise control for longer journeys.
The new MT-07 features a revised chassis and one of the changes includes the swingarm pivot assembly which has a new shape, thickness and bracing, making it a significant change compared to the previous model.
Although the look of the chassis remains very similar to before, only the headstock is identical to the previous MT-07 Incarnation.
The 2025 MT-07 features new suspension, finally gaining an upside-down fork. The fork, paired with a new rear suspension unit are just some of the new updates, as is the new die-cast aluminium triple clamp which is a first on a large capacity Yamaha.
The new MT-07 keeps its 690cc CP2 parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crankshaft, producing 72bhp and just shy of 50Ib ft of torque.
Pricing for the new MT-07 and MT-07 Y-AMT models is still to be confirmed, but what we do know is that three colourways will be available, including Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black.
