If you like the look of the new BMW R12 S but don’t quite have the required £18,460, allow us to present a used option - the R nineT Racer S.

£500 worth of savings are being offered on this used, but well-maintained BMW R nineT Racer model from 2017, which also features the traditional BMW colours of white, red and blue.

The BMW R nineT was introduced in 2014 to mark BMW Motorrad’s 90-year anniversary. The sporty retro model has remained a popular bike thanks to updates and new models which led to the discontinuation of the R nineT earlier this year in favour of the R12 nineT.

Thanks to its punchy 1170cc air/oil-cooled, twin-cylinder engine, the bike produces 108bhp at 7250rpm and 86Ib ft of torque at 6000rpm. In terms of suspension, the bike features a 43mm upside-down fork set-up that is non-adjustable, while the rear comprises a monoshock that is adjustable for preload and rebound.

Dual 320mm discs with Brembo four-pot axial-mount calipers make up the front braking system, with two-piston calipers and single 265mm disc at the rear. Its 17-litre fuel tank, full, will get you around 145 miles of range. The Racer S switched to a single-seat arrangement while gaining clip-ons and a bikini fairing, giving a similar cafe racer vibe to the new R12 S.

The new R12 nineT which replaces this bike, was first introduced at the end of 2013 before arriving in dealers earlier this year. A key difference between this bike on sale and the newer model is a new, two-piece, tubular steel frame complete with a bolt-on rear sub-frame. This replaces the old RNineT’s front and rear main frame and is claimed to be lighter, simpler and with cleaner lines.
