CCM Announces 'Project X' Adventure Bike
The Bolton brand CCM is going back to its roots as it launches its first true adventure bike since the GP450 was discontinued
Bolton-based CCM is pulling the wraps off a rugged new model at MotorcycleLive, as the CCM ‘Project X’ adventure bike is set to take centre stage.
Since the GP450 was discontinued in 2017 due to tightening emissions regulations, CCM and its tiny yet merry band of bike builders have focused their energy on building high-end cafe racers, street trackers and ultralightweight scramblers.
And that was an issue for fans of the GP450, which looked every inch a factory rally bike for the road and was blessed with a brilliant chassis, top-spec suspension and a pithy sub-150kg weight. That situation is about to change in 2025, as a new, proper off-road ready bike will be joining the roster, the form of the as-yet-unnamed ‘Project X’.
Hard and fast specs for the bike aren’t yet known, although CCM is describing the bike as being a “dual sport Enduro bike, in the style of the GP450, blending performance, versatility, and a unique blend of fun and lightweight handling.”
We can also tell you it’ll feature proper off-road-ready 21-inch and 18-inch front/rear wheels, long travel suspension, the largest fuel tank in the current CCM range, and retro styling. It’s also geared for general touring, and CCM has confirmed it’ll come equipped with longer gears for easier motorway cruising, options for luggage and enough room and comfort for two on a tour.
The CCM Maverick is the closest of the Spitfire-derived bikes to a true off-roader
One similarity between the new bike and CCM’s current Spitfire-derived offerings, is in the frame. Like each Spitfire to roll out of the Bolton workshop, the new ADV bike will feature a TIG-welded chromoly steel frame, which CCM claims will provide “strength, durability and lightweight”.
How the bike looks is still a secret at this time, although we won’t have to wait much longer to find out, as the bike will be unveiled on the CCM stand at Motorcycle Live at 11am on November 16.
