Ex-Anthony Gobert Bimota WorldSBK For Sale
This very Bimota took the last Anthony Gobert to victory at Phillip Island, and it’s heading to auction next month
A rare Bimota race bike will be heading to auction at the London Motorcycle Show. A bike which was ridden by the late Anthony Gobert in World Superbikes, and and took part in a now-legendary race.
Anthony “The Go Show” Gobert passed away a year ago, leaving a legacy in motorcycle racing that will likely never be matched. Deemed a bad boy by most, even flicking a middle finger at world champion Mick Doohan while riding, the other side of Gobert was his incredible speed on a motorcycle. Indeed, Gobert stunned the world in 1994 when, as a wildcard in the Phillip Island World Superbike round, he took the unfancied Bimota SB8K to pole position and a win, beating the biggest names in the game including Carl Fogarty and Scott Russell.
And it’s that very machine that has appeared on the Iconic Auctioneers catalogue for the London Motorcycle Show sale next month. The bike is being sold in original and unrestored condition, and wears all the scars and patina of a hard-ridden race bike. Nowhere is the history of the bike more evident than on the swingarm, which is pockmarked with corrosion on the surface of the magnesium.
Race-used World Superbikes do come up for sale now and again, but few are bikes connected to riders with reputations quite as bit as Mr Gobert’s. That, and the Aussie racer’s recent passing, has the estimate of this bike sitting at a lofty £80,000 to £100,000.
The London Motorcycle Show auction will be taking place on Sunday, February 16. More information on this bike can be found on the official website.
