Five Bikers Die Within an Hour in Two Incidents
Three lost their life on the A53 and another two motorcyclists were killed on the A6 near Buxton
The fine weather at the weekend brought many bikers out onto their favourite roads, although sadly two crashes in Derbyshire have meant five people never made it home.
The two incidents are reported to have happened within an hour of each other, with one occurring on the A53, between Buxton and Leek and another on the A6 between Buxton and Dove Holes.
The A53 incident is reported to have taken place at around 9:45am yesterday, Sunday 18 August. Mail Online reports that three vehicles were involved with the police releasing the following statement:
“Three motorcyclists were killed in a collision involving three vehicles
“Three motorcyclists, all men in their 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families are aware and our thoughts with them.
“The driver of the van, and two people from the car, were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”
The BBC reports that the second A6 incident happened at 10:20 the same day, near Tom Thorn and that two further bikers were involved with both losing their lives. It goes on to note that the families of the motorcyclists have been made aware.
The police are now keen to investigate the two incidents and are appealing to motorists to come forward with either witness testimony or dashcam footage of the events, or the moments leading up to them, to come forward to assist.
The crashes are a stark reminder of how a perfect day for a ride can quickly become tragic.
All at Visordown send our best wishes to the family and friends of those involved.
