Chris Hemsworth Has a Plane-Engined Chopper In Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

The chopper motorcycle that's set to feature in the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga film is an unhinged creation

The Mad Max film series is fairly well-known for its outlandish vehicles, and the chopper set to feature in Furiosa, an upcoming entry in which it will belong to the character played by Chris Hemsworth, is surely among the most radical.

The bike features a huge radial engine, a massively raked-out front fork, and absolutely no ground clearance.

Considering the kind of scenery the Mad Max films tend to take place in, we’re not sure the bike is the most practical, especially with the minimal space between the front and rear tyres and their respective mudguards. Better hope it doesn’t rain, we guess. At least it has a knobby on the front.

Anyway, it’s a pretty out-there-looking thing, mostly thanks to that radial motor, the kind you’d usually find in an aeroplane from before the gas turbine engine took over, or more currently in an aerobatics plane. It’s unlikely to be producing much more than 100bhp, but it’s probably also incapable of producing less than 100dB, so it’s give and take.

The big, round lump (that’s the engine, not Hemsworth, it hopefully goes without saying) sits in the middle of the bike and dominates its design. The silver ‘tank’ wraps its way around the upper cylinders, while the lower ones are barely off the ground, their health looked after by a fairly rudimentary-looking skid plate.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is scheduled for release on 24 May 2024, and will be the first Mad Max film since Fury Road released in 2015. It’s one of a number of titles that had us pondering whether 2024 might just be the ‘year of the motorcycle film’.
