COP26 to use Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles
Harley-Davidson has provided Police Scotland with a fleet of LiveWire electric motorcycles to help support the COP26 summit
SIX Harley-Davidson LiveWire motorcycles have been sent to Scotland this week, to help support the COP26 climate change conference that begins tomorrow.
With the UK government looking to flex its eco-friendly muscles at the event, a fleet of FJRs or R1250 RTs just wouldn’t have done, and in their place the LiveWire was drafted in for the 12 days that the event will run.
The fleet of fully-electric LiveWires has been specially adapted to meet Police Scotland’s operational needs by a combination of the technical teams at Harley-Davidson Europe and our two Scottish Harley-Davidson dealer partners in Edinburgh and Glasgow (West Coast). It was here where the handover to Police Scotland took place on Friday, 22nd October.
It’s thought the bikes will now spend the next couple of weeks escorting VIPs around the conference, answering emergency calls, and ensuring the safety of the general public.
Superintendent Darren Faulds, Roads Policing, said:
“Where possible we have taken measures to ensure that COP26 is policed in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
“Our work to improve our sustainability has been enhanced thanks to the support of Harley-Davidson, and we welcome these electric motorcycles as an addition to our existing road policing assets to help with the delivery of a safe and secure event.”
With the bikes being used mainly for short journeys around the city centre, the LiveWire fleet should provide nearly 150-miles of range before requiring a recharge.
