AN INDONESIAN man has set off on a 18,600-mile ride from Jakarta to London aboard a Kawasaki Versys-X 250.

Stephen Langitan has undertaken the mammoth 145-day journey with the aim of inspiring younger generations

"Through this activity, I hope to spread passion among young people. I am traveling alone across 30,000 kilometres and that requires mental strength and discipline. Young people must have determination and dreams," he told press prior to his departure.

And after setting out on Sunday, he is expected to cross the finish line on August 17th – Indonesia's Independence Day.

His decision to ride to London stemmed from the fact that there are already established routes and he would only need to cross the sea twice at the start of his journey – from Java to Sumatra and then to Malaysia.

Langitan will be supported by PT Pertamina Lubricants and will use the brand’s Pertamina Enduro on his epic trip, testing it in environments as extreme as the Indian highlands, the deserts of Pakistan and Iran and Europe’s own Alps.

For Pertamina Lubricants, it’s an opportunity to celebrate Indonesia, where the oil is made.

The company’s sales and marketing director Andria Nusa commented: "We are proud to support the dream and determination of the nation's people to travel around the world with the country's name."
