2006 World Champion and much-loved rider succumbs to injuries sustained in cycling accident

NEWS FROM Cesena is breaking that Honda World Superbike rider Nicky Hayden has died at Bufalini Hospital. He was 35-years-old.

A statement from the hospital reads:

‘The medical college has confirmed the death of the patient Nicholas Patrick Hayden, recovering from Wednesday May 17 in a hospital intensive care unit of Cesena Bufalini as a result of serious multiple injuries occurred on that date.’

Honda World Superbike rider, 2006 MotoGP Champion and former AMA Superbike Champion Hayden was hit by a car while out cycling last Wednesday in Rimini, in the week after the last world superbike round at Imola.

He sustained serious head, pelvis and chest injuries and was taken to hospital in Cesena where he was put in to an induced coma in the hope of improving his condition but now the hospital has had to announce the worst possible news.
