Northants Police launch their Yamaha WR450F off-road bike squad
Taking delivery of eight Yamaha WR450F enduro bikes, Northants Police has launched their off-road based operation to tackle rural crime.
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Police has taken delivery of eight brand-new Yamaha WR450F enduro bikes in hopes their new enduro bikes will help them “get right into the heart of the communities”.
Chief Constable Nick Adderley highlighted that the enduro bikes are the fastest and most agile large capacity enduro bikes offered by Yamaha, with 20 Police officers trained to use them to tackle anti-social behaviour - something identified as one of the forces top priorities.
Alongside this, the new bikes will allow officers to get to places to search for vulnerable people in hard-to-reach areas, along with the increased power compared to their old machines allowing officers to keep up with nuisance riders.
In the video linked below, he also confirms their no-nonsense approach, crushing offending vehicles where needed.
Yamaha’s WR450F is a serious bit of kit, in any case, and more than capable of handling itself in tricky terrains.
In the release, Chief Constable, Nick Adderley, said:
“These off-road motorcycles are high-powered machines and have been invested in so we can match, horsepower for horsepower, some of the bikes and vehicles we are seeing being used in anti-social behaviour across the county.
“You’ve got to give the officers the right kit and the right training to deal with the changing nature of anti-social behaviour and these bikes do exactly that. For too long, the blight of people riding off-road motorcycles and vehicles with impunity across our towns has put our communities in fear – not anymore.
“These bikes will also be key in finding missing people who have gone off-road and, coupled with our drone capability, I am sure that we will be able to find vulnerable people faster than ever and get them the support they need.”
Good to see Northants Police stepping up their off-road motorcycle game. We’ve reported in the past that UK Police are widening their approach for tackling rural crime and anti-social behaviour/riding, utilising drones and other task forces to tackle illegal off-road riding.
I wouldn’t mind riding one of these down some lanes to catch the bad guys, to be honest!
