Proper Job! Guy Martin tries his hand at sidecar racing
TT racer and record-breaker Guy Martin has turned his had to sidecar racing, with Carl Fenwick Racing at Cadwell Park
GUY Martin is no stranger when it comes to taking on new challenges. From hurtling down roads in gravity racers, to riding dirt bikes across lakes. If there is a new box to be ticked off the bucket list, Guy Martin will be first in the queue to take part.
Last week, Guy fulfilled what is the dream for many motorcyclists, taking to the ‘chair’ in an F2 sidecar outfit. The chance came at the International Sidecar Revival at the Lincolnshire circuit, a place that Guy knows well thanks to its proximity to his home. The machine Guy took part in was a Shelbourne Yamaha combination that was run by Carl Fenwick.
And this was no demonstration run for Guy and the Fenwick team, they were competing in the International Sidecar Revival event, a weekend that sees some of the biggest names in sidecar racing converge for a weekend of three-wheeled action. Classes included F1 and F2 sidecars, as well as classic outfits and even two-strokes taking to the miniature Nordschleife.
Guy and Fenwick achieved a respectable fifth place on Saturday with a best lap time of 1:45.306 – just over a second down on the fastest lap of the race! Sunday didn’t go so well, with the Fenwick Racing team posting a DNF after completing five laps of the track.
A post on Guy’s Facebook page reads:
‘Cheers to our good mate Fenners… Carl Fenwick Racing at C.R. Fenwick Commercials for giving Guy the opportunity to chair for him this weekend at The International Sidecar Revival at Cadwell Park A few mechanical issues, some spins and Guy taking a bit of a dismount kept them busy.’
