A quarter of drivers don’t check mirrors when pulling away

MILLIONS of drivers don’t always make thorough mirrors checks, according a survey.

Of 2,025 drivers polled, 25% admitted they don’t look in every mirror thoroughly when pulling away.

Six out of 10 believed they would fail the driving test if they had to do it again, and 15% admitted not always looking at road signs.

The survey also found just under half don’t put the handbrake on every time the car comes to a stop and 68% admit rarely driving with both hands on the wheel.

Fifty-two percent thought bad habits such as these would ensure they failed the test if they had to do it again.

David Carter, spokesman for Accident Advice Helpline, which conducted the research, said: “It is worrying that more people don’t feel confident in their own skills on the road and feel that they’ve developed bad habits which would cause them to not pass their driving test.

“Too many people are injured on the roads due to poor judgement and a lack of road skills so people should keep the good habits they learnt while taking their lessons.”
