HERO has been around for almost 40 years in the motorcycle industry, and in that time it has become an excerpt manufacturer of small capacity bikes, from their Xtreme 200 S sportbike, to their 125cc Glamour BS6; or their scooter range.

Now, Hero is looking to branch out into the electric market, the prominence of which is increasing in the small capacity sectors. Vida is the result of that desire to electrify.

At an event in Dubai, the Chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp, Dr. Pawan Munjal, said Hero has been thinking about how they can “best align with changing behaviours, needs, wants, and desires of people.”

Part of that alignment is Vida, which will become Hero’s electric mobility brand.

“Vida is life,” Munjal said. “We are all about life - a good, clean, positive, optimistic life,” he continued, while also saying that Vida is just one part of Hero’s plans to move towards greater sustainability.

Munjal also announced at the event a $100m sustainability fund, and global partnerships with the goal of creating “10,000 entrepreneurs in climate, sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, and (corporate) Governance) solutions, and diversity and inclusion.”

The official launch of Vida will be on 1 July 2022, while the full announcement can be viewed below.

The announcement from Hero comes as other major manufacturers are announcing their own electric plans and products. Honda has announced a partnership with Sony to begin creating electric vehicles by 2025, and yesterday (9 March 2022) announced a new electric dirt bike; Yamaha has announced its own electric scooter, moped and e-bike plans; and KTM have revealed electric bikes that will be released across some of the KTM Group’s brands later this year.
