Ducati is making its first plunge into full-time racing in the MXGP world championship in 2025, and Jeremy Seweer has joined the Italian brand for two seasons, spearheading its efforts.

Ducati made its official MXGP debut earlier this year when veteran and nine-time world champion, Tony Cairoli, gave the Desmo450 its first run out. Although the results weren’t anything to write home about, the performance from the Desmo450 was strong as Cairoli battled for a top ten in the second of two races. The Italian also showed good speed in qualifying, finishing seventh.

Seewer may be yet to claim a world championship in MX racing, but Ducati’s new signing is a name motocross fans will know a lot about. Five times a race winner in MX2 and eight in MXGP, The Swiss rider is a two-time runner-up in MX2, while he’s also finished second on three occasions in MXGP.

A statement from Ducati said: “Jeremy Seewer will be one of the two official Ducati riders who will take part in the 2025 MXGP World Championship with the Desmo450 MX. The thirty-year-old Swiss rider, born in Bülach (CH) on 18 July 1994, has signed a two-year agreement (2025 – 2026) with the Borgo Panigale manufacturer.

“Seewer made his world championship debut in 2012 and was twice runner-up in MX2 in 2016 and 2017, and three times runner-up in MXGP in 2019, 2020 and 2022, while he finished third in 2023. He has five victories in MX2 and eight in MXGP to his name. Seewer is currently lying fourth in the 2024 championship, with two races remaining this season.”

Seewer will bring Ducati much needed experience after having competed for Yamaha before joining the Kawasaki Racing Team at the start of last season. Seewer will make his final appearance for Kawasaki at the FIM Motocross of Nations in Great Britain, where he will represent Switzerland for the 12th time.
