Kawasaki Could Be About to Stick a Supercharged H2 Engine in a UTV
A utility vehicle seller and the only manufacturer that produces a supercharged H2 engine, Kawasaki could be about to combine the two
If this short but sweet video is anything to be believed, Kawasaki looks set to combine its supercharged H2 superbike engine with a UTV model from its off-road range.
We don’t know what or how many models might receive the supercharged H2 engine, but this tease is pretty telling and seems to point at this unlikely combination arriving in the future.
The teaser, and we mean teaser as it's just 15 seconds long, shows a UTV sitting in the background as two workers walk past, before showing a green UTV in action as it tears through sand trails.
From there, Kawasaki does very little to hide what is coming next as it calls it Project H2 which can only mean one thing, that the 998cc inline-four supercharged engine appears to be heading for its four-wheel range. What we don’t know is when this might take place.
It’s thought that a supercharged H2 Kawasaki UTV could produce up to 239bhp at 11,500rpm and around 105Ib ft of torque at 11,000rpm, which would easily make it the most powerful and torque-rich UTV in the Japanese brand’s history.
As far as other UTV’s go, the Polaris RZR Pro R is one of the most powerful four-wheelers on the market today, producing 225bhp, although Can-Am’s Maverick R stretches to a whopping 240bhp.
Monster figures for these monster machines, a supercharged UTV with a H2 engine from Kawasaki would put it in that range alongside the RZR Pro R and Maverick R from Cam-Am.
When Kawasaki first unveiled its supercharged H2 motorcycle in 2013 it revolutionized the industry, and a UTV with the same engine could well do the same in the rally-raid off-road category.
