KTM completes initial dyno runs of new 2027 MotoGP engine
MotoGP is set for a new future from 2027 and KTM has become the first brand to showcase its all-new 850cc power unit.

KTM has offered a first glimpse into its all-new 2027 MotoGP engine, with the first dyno runs officially completed.
KTM, which arrived on the scene in MotoGP almost ten years ago, has proved itself to be one of the fastest developing brands, although race wins have proven hard to come by of late.
KTM joined MotoGP full-time in 2017, and by the end of 2018, it had its first podium. By the end of 2020, it had its first win in the series thanks to Brad Binder, an impressive feat considering more established brands like Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati were dominating the sport.
However, KTM has not won a Grand Prix since 2022 when Miguel Oliveira took his Tech3 machine to the top step of the podium in Thailand. But 2027 will provide a reset of sorts for every team and manufacturer as major rule changes will take place, including 1000cc engines being decreased to 850cc. Those engines will also run on 100 per cent non-fossil fuel, which is another one of the many changes.
With development of the new engines well underway, KTM has become the first company to offer a glimpse into its racing future and that of MotoGP. A short video was released by KTM on YouTube which told us very little. Although KTM confirmed that dyno runs have already been completed at its headquarters in Austria.
Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports Director, said:
“I am extremely happy that we could fire up the future of MotoGP already in September 2025. We are on a perfect time schedule to get the full bike up and running very soon. We have packed everything we have learned during the last years of MotoGP participation into this engine and I am very confident that this piece of art will become a benchmark in the seasons to come from 2027. I want to thank the factory and the whole team behind the project for this massive effort.”
Last weekend’s Indonesian MotoGP was the best round of the year for the factory Red Bull KTM team, with Pedro Acosta finishing second ahead of teammate Binder in fourth.
