Metal foundry company, Vocklabrucker Metallgießerei GmbH (VMG), which has been around for nearly seven decades was bought by KTM last year but looked set to close due to the Austrian firm’s insolvency. That was before another metalworking company came to the rescue.

KTM took over 100 per cent of the company in late 2024 but due to its mass financial troubles, the metal foundry found itself in a position where it looked like it would become a casualty of KTM’s problems.

But that has not happened and it’s thanks to another family-owned business called Mettec Guss Metallgießerei und Formenbau GmbH. VMG was set to celebrate its 70-year anniversary prior to the financial crisis, however, that could well go ahead now thanks to its change of fortunes.

According to various Austrian news outlets, Mettec Guss will now take over the VMG business as of 1 March, 2025. Given new life, the business will be called VMG Niederdruckguss GmbH, and will be run by Karin Kirchschlager.

Adding to the good news for VMG is that all 34 employees who were at risk of losing their jobs will be retained under the new ownership. Additionally, the reconstituted organisation will bring back 20 previous VMG employees who had been reduced to unemployment as a result of the fallout from the KTM insolvency.

Its new owner Mettec Guss is a company that is best known for gravity die casting and sand casting.

A reminder that a crucial vote on KTM’s restructuring plan will take place tomorrow (25 Tuesday) where it will be determined what type of future the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer has.
