Aprilia RS 660 supersport unleashed at EICMA 2019
The all-new 2020 Aprilia RS 660 supersport bike makes its much anticipated debut at the 2019 EICMA show... together with a 2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 Concept
The Aprilia RS 660 has made its debut at EICMA 2019, heralding the first of a new range of middleweights using its new parallel twin engine.
The machine has been eagerly anticipated ever since its debuted in concept form in 2018, with the showroom ready version stealing the show again by retaining its muse’s compact profile and poised silhouette, much like its iconic RSV4 Superbike bigger sibling.
Under the skin, the Aprilia RS 660 lives up to the brand’s reputation for honed sportsbikes with weight kept to a featherlight 169kg, thanks in part to the aluminium frame and swingarm.
Combined with the 100HP generated by the forward-facing parallel twin – which has been created by halving the venerable V4 from the RSV4 – the Aprilia RS 660 should ensure a sharp riding experience.
Aprilia RS 660 Riding Modes
A more accessible sportsbike than the Aprilia RSV4 but retaining the same premium feel, the Aprilia RS 660 features a ride-by-wire throttle and a six-axis inertial platform for optimum operation of the electronic aides.
The Aprilia RS 660 features five riding modes designed for daily riding, dynamic riding on the road and extreme riding on track. These are – in self-explanatory terms – Commute, Dynamic, Individual, Challenge and Time Attack.
RS 660 also stands out for its particularly advanced aerodynamics comprising a double fairing with aerodynamic appendage function to optimise stability at high speeds, effectively protecting both rider and passenger from the air pressure. It also comes with Kayaba adjustable suspension.
The MIA infotainment system adds smartphone connectivity showing navigation information directly to the instrument cluster.
Aprilia Tuono 660 Concept revealed
With the Aprilia RS 660 going into production, attention will turn to expanding the range out to include new range of middleweight machines. Next up will be the Aprilia Tuono 660 naked, which was revealed at EICMA in concept form.
Generating 95HP, the Tuono 660 combines the familiar naked silhouette with the distinct flourishes debuting on the RS 660 supersport.
Focused on power-to-weight ratio to provide riding enjoyment, the Tuono 660 Concept is a more relaxed and accessible form of sports riding. In addition, a 34kW version will be made available for more novice riders.
