Alterations to R1200GS and others for next year including ‘dynamic brake light’

BMW HAS revealed a raft of changes to its carryover 2016 machines including the addition of a brake light that flashes during hard stops to warn drivers behind.

The Dynamic Brake Light flashes if you brake hard from speeds over 50km/h (31mph).  If you keep the anchors on as the bike drops below 14km/h (9mph) – as though you’re coming to a complete standstill – the hazard lights will automatically flash.

The new tech will appear on 2016 R1200GS and Adventure models and the S1000XR when they’re fitted with ‘ABS Pro’ in conjunction with the ‘Ride Modes Pro’ option (remember when you only had to choose what colour you wanted?) It will also be standard on the K1600GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive, which also have ABS Pro.

What’s ABS Pro? Unsurprisingly, it’s not for professional anti-lock brake users, but instead is BMW’s take on the Bosch cornering ABS system that’s already appeared on some other bikes, particularly KTMs.

Oh, and if you’re not in the EU, you don’t get the flashy brake lights, presumably because they’d be illegal in some other territories, but you can still get ABS Pro. Yes, it’s just as complicated as it sounds.

Elsewhere, the changes are all about the Bold New Colours. See our full gallery of pictures below. For 2016 you can get (and these are BMW’s own descriptions):

The central fuel tank cover, fuel tank side panels and front mudguard in Black storm metallic together with black anodised fork slider tubes give the legendary travel enduro a strikingly masculine touch. Powerful technical accentuations are provided by the front and rear frame in Agate Grey in combination with the engine, gearbox and swinging arm.

The special model is fitted with the cross-spoke wheels with black gloss rim base familiar from the R 1200 GS Adventure, previously available as a special equipment feature.

A new black-grey seat with striking "GS" application on passenger seat rounds off the strong appearance of the new R 1200 GS TripleBlack.
