American motorcycle firm Buell has announced it will launch the first all-new models of its latest revival at Daytona Bike Week 2022, with the unveiling of the Buell SuperTouring 1190 and Baja DR on 5 March.

The well-known Michigan brand was dusted off in 2021 under new management six years after the company - under the mantle Erik Buell Racing - filed for receivership and 12 years after the nameplate was discontinued for a first time by then owners Harley-Davidson

Having kicked things off with a reworking of the 1190 RX sportsbike - now known as the Hammerhead - Buell is preparing to start the next chapter of its latest story with two new ‘from-the-ground-up’ models making their official bow.

Topping the bill is the production-version of the SuperTouring 1190, a model Buell previewed in renderings upon the announcement of its resurrection 12 months ago.

Billed as the ‘World’s Fastest Touring Bike’, the SuperTouring 1900 is setting its sights on the BMW R 1250 and the new Honda NT1100, not to mention the adventure-cum-touring Harley-Davidson Pan America.

Equipped with Buell’s venerable 1190cc V-twin engine, the SuperTouring 1900 produces a substantial 185hp and 101Ib-ft of torque, while the design - provided it stays true to the render - is likely to turn heads with its quirky angular, utilitarian profile.

Promising a range of aftermarket touring accessories and a starting price of $21,995, Buell will begin taking reservations for just $25 upon its unveiling

“We’ve taken the Buell DNA customers know and love, and applied to the performance touring segment, developing a topline touring bike that will lead the American market in speed, handling and performance,” said Bill Melvin, CEO of Buell Motorcycle Co.

“The Buell SuperTouring 1190 is a next level touring bike with designs that will bring excitement back to American touring motorcycles! Plus, in spite of supply chain headwinds, it’s on target for production to start this fall!”

Sharing the stage with the SuperTouring 1900 will also be the new Buell Baja DR (dune racer), which the company also touts as the ‘world’s fastest production dirtbike’

Set to go on sale in 2023, the Baja DR features a 175hp 72-degree V-twin engine with 101Ib-ft of torque, trellis frame, adjustable swing arm for a 66” to 70” wheelbase, and industry standard 37” seat height with 26.75 degree rake.

“This is a pivotal moment for American motorcycles and really puts Buell on the map. We are on track to build the world’s fastest and solely American-built production off road bike.

“Less than 1% of the world is covered with pavement, the Buell Baja DR is designed to dominate the other 99.7%. It will give riders the freedom to go anywhere in the world, faster and with more power, harnessing our 1190 engine.

“The Buell Baja DR is a beast, elevating the brand to even greater heights, and will bring passion back for American-built motorcycles.”
