Clearest shot yet of BMW’s S1000-based tourer
Spy shot shows production-ready S1000XR in detail
THIS is the latest spy shot of BMW’s new S1000-based adventure-tourer – now thought to be called the S1000XR – giving the clearest view yet of the 2015 model.
It will compete with Ducati’s Multistrada using a retuned version of the 999cc in-line-four engine from BMW's S1000RR and S1000R, expected to make around 160hp.
The shot of the S1000XR leaving a Munich research and design facility shows it in near-production form, with only the headlights, screen and badges disguised by tape.
The picture suggests it will share the S1000R’s chassis.
It’s also expected to share the S1000R’s electronics package, with traction control, ABS and a range of riding modes.
It’s due to be official unveiled this autumn for production next year, with an anticipated price of £13,000.
BMW is said to be considering two names, S1000XF and S1000XR, with the latter the current favourite.
The first spy shot of the bike was revealed in March.
