HOMOLOGATION data from the US has brought to light the possibility of a new, lightweight version of the Ducati Streetfighter V4 that is thought to be landing in 2022.

The data purports that the new bike will continue to be powered by the same 1,103cc V4 engine, meaning power and torque will remain roughly the same. For the SP variant, it is the bodywork and chassis components that gain the upgrades.

Using the Panigale V4 SP as a template, if that is the way Ducati look at it, it seems likely that many of the plastic parts bolted to the Streetfighter SP will be recreated in carbon fibre as opposed to plastic. If that’s the case things like the bi-plane wings, headlight surround, front and rear mudguard, and exhaust heat shield could take on a much more pleasing (and lightweight) form.

Back to the important stuff and if the SP blueprint stays true to form, the new updated Streetfighter could gain some lightweight rims, something that would boost the handling performance of the bike, thanks to weight savings of as much as 1kg up for grabs. The Panigale SP gains carbon fibre rims, although, with magnesium versions already available as an option for the Streetfighter, we think they’re more likely to be the as-standard option. Another carryover from the Panigale V4 SP that could find its way onto the naked bike is the slinky looking dry clutch conversion kit as standard – usually a £2,935 option.

Other upgrades are likely to arrive in the form of upgraded brake master cylinders, billet rearsets, and of course the obligatory moody matt black paint job…

For more information stay tuned, it seems likely this is a bike to be unveiled at this year’s EICMA show in Milan.
