Facelifted KTM 1290 Super Duke R spotted
New bodywork and LED headlight for Euro 4-compliant 1290 Super Duke R
HERE’S a first look at KTM’s updated 1290 Super Duke R, with styling tweaks including reshaped bodywork.
The cowls either side of the tank have been reshaped to make a right-angle which follows the edge of the radiator.
The headlight is understood to be a full-LED unit which has changed shape slightly.
The model is also believed to have benefited from an improved electronics package including cornering ABS.
The tweaks, spotted as the bike was being tested near KTM’s headquarters in Austria, are part of a round of updates which will also includes making the model compliant with the latest Euro 4 emission limits.
KTM has already made a Euro 4-compliant version of the Super Duke R’s 1301cc V-twin engine, for use in its sports-touring sister, the 2016 1290 Super Duke GT.
The changes included a re-designed exhaust and cylinder head, keeping peak power the same at 173hp but moving it up 635rpm to 9,500rpm. Peak torque is also the same at 106.2lbft but 1,000rpm lower at 6,750rpm.
