Harley-Davidson unveils new entry-level Softail Standard model
The 2020 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard is introduced to give the range a new entry level starting point and appeal to customisers
Harley-Davidson has bolstered its Softail line-up with the introduction of the entry-level Standard, which it describes as a ‘lean bobber steeped in attitude’.
In the face of competition from the likes of the Triumph Bobber, Harley-Davidson has responded with the single seat, laced wheeled Standard, not doubt eyeing up the custom market by providing something of a blank canvas for adventurous bikers to create their art.
In this Standard trim the Softail gets a 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheel, while just the single Vivid Black colour is offered. At its heart is the venerable Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin 107 powertrain producing 110ft-Ib (145Nm) of torque, weighing in at 291kg and offering a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission.
At £11,495 in the UK, the Harley-Davidson Softail Standard is designed to be a more attainable entry point for prospective owners, coming in at £800 cheaper than the previous entry level Street Bob.
From launch the Softail Standard will be offered with four dedicated accessory packages using Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories, with the Day Tripper Custom Package (priced in US at $1,409.95) offering the option of adding a pillion with detachable sissy bar and footpegs, while the Coastal Custom Package ($1,599.95) is intended to add a performance element with a Softail Quarter Fairing, aluminium Moto Bar handlebar and BMX-style footpegs.
The Touring Custom Package ($1,699.95) is the more practical version designed for longer distances, while the Performance Custom Package ($1,299.95) amplifies the throttle response of the engine and adds mufflers for a deep-bass exhaust note.
