New BMW F850 R leaked
The new BMW F850 R seems to be getting a muscular makeover for 2020, with R1250 R inspired headlights and all-new bodywork
THE 2020 BMW F850 R has been given a new look for 2020 as these leaked pictures from Motor1 Brazil seem to show.
If the image is to be believed, the 2020 version of the mid-weight sports naked seems to be a completely new bike compared to the previous machine, much more than just a facelift.
The swingarm, frame, engine, bodywork, clocks and fuel tank all seem to be new items. With just the front forks and wheels looking like they could be related to the outgoing model.
The new bike also features a new, underslung exhaust system, doing away with the bulky side-mounted item of the old F850 R.
What can we expect from the 2020 BMW F850R
The 2020 F850 R (if that’s when we will see it) is using the same engine as the F850 GS Visordown tested at the end of last year. It’s safe to assume the R will have a tune all of its own, making the most of a chunky mid-range is what a naked is all about after all.
For comparison’s sake, the GS puts out a shade under 100bhp at 8250rpm and makes 68ft-lb of torque at 6250rpm.
While we wouldn’t expect the new F850 R to make stratospheric numbers, by comparison. A slight uplift and broader, less low-down torque spread would be expected though.
With the winter season of motorcycle shows and launches about to get into full swing, it seems only sensible that we’d see some concrete evidence of the new F850 R within the next month or so.
