THESE SPY shots show what looks likely to be a new addition to the Multistrada family for next year.

The image first appeared on Italian website Moto.it.

The rumour from Italy is that the bike is built around the 937cc L-twin from the Hypermotard and Hyperstrada 939. If that’s the case, this bike could make 113hp and 72.2lb/ft torque.

Although the images aren’t clear enough to know for sure, use of the 939 engine ties in with the fact that the bike is reportedly smaller than the Multistrada 1200, although the camouflage patterns make it difficult to get a sense of its true scale.

What we do know is that the bike looks to have the same frame as the Multistrada 1200 plus the same seat unit and the same Brembo front brake setup as the Hypermotard.

Instead of a single-sided swingarm, the bike also employs a double-sided swingarm – something that can be seen on the smaller Monster 821, which uses a double-sided swingarm, unlike the larger (and more expensive) Monster 1200, which is in part differentiated by its single-sided unit.

One of the bikes looks to be set up for touring thanks to the panniers and what may be a taller screen.

If this new Multistrada is smaller than the existing 1200, it may also be lighter and crucially, cheaper than the base model Multistrada 1200, which starts at £13,125.

The bike is likely to be revealed at Eicma, where according to a spokesperson for Ducati UK, Ducati will be revealing the most significant of its 2017 models.
