White Motorcycle Concepts WMC300AE Hybrid goes up for public sale
The WMC300AE is a hybrid conversion built around the already whacky Yamaha Tricity and after a successful period used as a police bike, it’s now up for grabs to the general public.
White Motorcycle Concept’s first bike up for public sale is a very different proposition to the wild electric land speed record racer we reported on last year. It does though utilise some of the technology and lessons learned while creating that track-only machine.
The Yamaha Tricity 300 leaning multi-wheel scooter is used as a base, with White adding what it refers to as stage one tuning plus a range-extending hybrid electric system. The stage one tune is relatively low-key (a high-flow air filter and free-flowing exhaust system) the hybrid system on the other hand is not. The system allows the electric motors to take over the propulsion of the bike at lower speeds and switches to petrol power when the need arises. The batteries for the electric part of the hybrid system are located in the aerodynamic seat unit, and once depleted can be switched out for fresh batteries or recharged from a domestic socket in a claimed one hour.
One element of the bike that comes directly from the WMC250EV land speed bike is the centrally mounted air duct that flows from front to back and beneath the bike’s seat. The idea of the duct is to drastically reduce drag, by taking air from the nose of the bike (where the air pressure is generally very high) and giving it a low-resistance route through and out the back end of the machine. In doing this both the speed and acceleration of the bike can be improved, as well as its efficiency.
Other mechanical upgrades to the Tricity come in the form of Ohlins rear shocks, EBC sports brake pads, carbon fibre aero wheel trims, and Givi panniers.
Those looking to swing a leg over the WMC300AE can now register their interest on the White Motorcycle Concepts website, although there are just 10 being made and currently no pricing information is listed on the website.
