KTM will become the first motorcycle company to test Bosch’s new six-stage radar system which is aimed at reducing the risk of crashing. New for 2025, the system will have the power to bring the bike to a halt behind another vehicle, apply brake pressure and warn other road users if they are getting too close.

It will also be able to pull away from a stopped position. The radar system is the second generation of its Advanced Rider Assistance System (ARAS) and will be debuted aboard KTM’s Super Adventure V-twin model, using the firm’s AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) semi-automatic gearbox.

A total of six new systems will be present on the KTM, although the Super Adventure will receive additional functions compared to the current system used on the 1290 Super Adventure S model.

It will include a Group Ride Assist (GRA) function which is able to dissect the closest bike in a group ride and alter the speed of the motorcycle to match their riding inputs. It will also be able to track the motorcycle’s movement, therefore being able to understand if the bike is moving from lane to lane.

“Bosch’s declared aim is to make motorcycling even safer and more comfortable by employing innovative new technologies - without diminishing riding enjoyment,” said Geoff Liersch, head of Two-Wheeler & Powersports at Bosch.

“We’re very satisfied with the longstanding collaborative relationship between our development teams, and we’re excited that KTM is the first to put these new functions to use.”

Its Adaptive Cruise function will be used by the Stop & Go function, which is expected to be the most controversial element of the new system. It will be able to slow the bike down to a complete stop with the car in front, if necessary, before pulling away again with the traffic at the touch of a button.

This will be implemented thanks to the incoming clutchless AMT semi-automatic gearbox on the KTM. This will allow the bike to change gears for you in relation to where the vehicle in front of you is positioned and coming to a halt without the risk of stalling.

Other systems planned include an Emergency Brake Assist which is the function that will apply the front brake for the rider. This will happen if the system believes a crash is incoming it will. However, it cannot happen without the rider first applying the brakes, nor will it work above speeds of around 100mph.
