Bridewell hails ‘mega’ Moto Rapido as he moves clear in BSB battle
Tommy Bridewell's sixth podium in nine races sees him ascend to the summit of the BSB standings by a clear 14 points
Tommy Bridewell has heaped praised on his ‘little team from Winchester’ as he and the Moto Rapido-run Oxford Racing team established a comfortable 14-point advantage in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
The Devizes rider continued his superb run of form on the Oxford Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R at Brands Hatch, notching up a pair of podiums to increase his rostrum tally to six in nine races.
Finishing on the rear wheel of double winner josh Brookes in race two, though it means Bridewell’s extended wait for a first BSB race win since 2016 continues on, his sheer consistency has pushed him to the top of the standings by a fair margin.
Indeed, though Bridewell admits he’d like to be celebrating a win, he is otherwise delighted to be leading his local team to more landmark success.
“The positives are we are a little team from Winchester and we are leading the British Superbike Championship by 14 points. I have never done that before, so it is mega for me, it is mega for the team and it just shows how much hard work really.
“We made a change with the chassis from what we had been running, it was a really positive step so I am really happy with that.
“There was the small element of disappointment that we didn’t get the win but it will come, I am a great believer of that, I just need to be patient and not try and over-ride. That race was everything I had, I was losing the front, the rear… the good thing is Josh wasn’t pulling away either.
“Credit to the team, they gave me a phenomenal package they are allowing me to be in that position and ride like I am. We go to Knockhill and see if we can have another go.”
