Tommy Bridewell announced his title intentions with a battling second win of the 2021 British Superbike Championship (BSB) season at Oulton Park.

The Oxford Racing Ducati rider - in fourth as one of eight Title Showdown contenders - hunted down and passed both McAMS Yamaha riders to steal the win on the final lap of the race.

It was a particularly impressive charge for Bridewell who made a mistake on the opening lap to end the opening lap in 13th, before working his way back up the order to put Tarran Mackenzie and Jason O’Halloran in his sights as the chequered flag loomed.

Dispatching Mackenzie on the penultimate lap, Bridewell lined up O’Halloran for a pass on the final revolution to take a timely win from his Aussie rival, who gets to eke his championship lead out to nine points following his crash in Race 1.

Race one podium winner Josh Brookes crashed out of a battle for fourth on the final lap while running fifth, allowing Christian Iddon to finish just off the podium, ahead of Peter Hickman, with Lee Jackson the highest-finishing non-Showdown contender in sixth.

Bradley Ray was seventh, ahead of Danny Buchan, while Andrew Irwin and Gino Rea rounding out the top ten.

Glenn Irwin’s title hopes look to be over after technical issues consigned him to retirement on the opening lap.
