Scott Redding has converted his impressive pace at Snetterton to claim victory in the opening race in the Bennetts British Superbike championship after profiting from Tommy Bridewell’s fall while leading the race.

After enduring a poor start from pole position to drop to fourth place, Redding kept pace with the front-running group led by Tarran Mackenzie from Bridewell and Josh Brookes.

Bridewell bolted into the lead at the start of Lap 6, diving up the inside of Mackenzie at the first corner, but just over one lap later he was out after low-siding off at Agostini.

That handed the lead to Redding after getting past Mackenzie just before Bridewell’s off, which allowed the Be Wiser Ducati rider to sprint clear over the second half of the race.

Defending a one-second cushion on Brookes and Mackenzie, Redding sealed his fifth win of the season to extend his BSB championship lead. 2015 BSB champion Brookes held off Mackenzie to complete a Be Wiser Ducati 1-2 in front of the McAMS Yamaha rider.

Danny Buchan, who secured his maiden BSB win last time out at Knockhill, had a lonely race off the front group to take fourth place for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki to strengthen his grip on a top six Showdown spot.

Andrew Irwin won the race-long fight against Honda Racing team-mate Xavi Fores to take fifth place, while Peter Hickman pulled off a last-lap move to grab seventh place on the Smiths Racaing BMW ahead of Luke Mossey on the OMG Racing Suzuki.

Jason O’Halloran also jumped up the order with final lap overtakes to finish in ninth place for McAMS Yamaha ahead of Tyco BMW duo Christian Iddon and stand-in Michael Laverty.

Hector Barbera, another replacement rider for the injured Glenn Irwin at Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki, ended his debut Snetterton race in 12th place ahead of Bradley Ray (Buildbase Suzuki) and Dan Linfoot (Santander Salt Yamaha).

Claudio Corti grabbed the final point place for Team WD-40 Kawasaki in a race of high attrition with eight non-finishers, including former Moto3 world champion Danny Kent making his Bike Devil MV Agusta debut.
