Ducati MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso saw a top 10 finish on his one-off DTM entry slip away as a spin to finish in 15th place in race two at Misano.
Making a special guest appearance as part of the Audi Sport team – which owns the Ducati company – Dovizioso found clear overnight gains after finishing 12th in the opener and fought against Aston Martin’s Ferdinand Habsburg for eighth place during the Sunday’s second race.
But a spin after losing control over the kerbs relegated the Italian down to 15th place which is where he would finish the race.
Dovizioso becomes the latest DTM guest driver after World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier, former DTM champion and WorldRX champion Mattias Ekstrom and Paralympic gold medallist and ex-F1 driver Alex Zinardi all make one-off appearances last year.
Dovizioso also joins fellow MotoGP stars to trial car racing, including Valentino Rossi (WRC) and Casey Stoner (V8 Supercars), while the likes of Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo have also participated in F1 tests.
1975 350cc World Champion Johnny Cecotto is particularly notable for his considerable success in touring cars after retiring from two-wheel racing, with the Venezuelan becoming a factory BMW driver during the early 1990s, finishing championship runner-up in DTM in 1990.
P15 for @AndreaDovizioso today who lost the chance for a better result with this spin. #OwnEverySecond #DTM #DTMMisano #ranDTM pic.twitter.com/de8MLFDZI7
