Jorge Lorenzo is set to step up his car racing schedule in 2024, with a move into the GT3 class with Aston Martin.

GT race cars are not entirely new to Lorenzo, having raced a Ferrari 458 (for the same Kessel Racing squad that Valentino Rossi would later race for on several occasions) at the 2014 Gulf 12 Hours. Since his retirement from motorcycle racing at the end of 2019, Lorenzo has also taken to the starting grid in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia, Porsche Supercup, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

Lorenzo’s 2024 season will mark something new for the Spaniard, though, as he competes in the GT3 class on a multi-race schedule for the first time. He will do so with Aston Martin and its Vantage GT3, prepared by the Lazarus Corse team.

The series in which Lorenzo will race has not yet been confirmed, but with his move into the GT3 category for 2024 he moves into the same category as Valentino Rossi, who won in the GT World Challenge Europe for the first time last year at Misano with the WRT BMW team, and with which Rossi will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship this year.

If Lorenzo were to compete in the GT World Challenge Europe, he would once again race against Rossi (who is competing in GTWC in addition to WEC in 2024), with whom he had an infamous rivalry in the late 2000s and throughout the 2010s in MotoGP, more or less until his aforementioned retirement at the end of 2019.

Dani Pedrosa, another of MotoGP’s famous ‘Aliens’ and current KTM MotoGP test rider, has also competed in the GT World Challenge Europe, racing in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo last year. He also raced in the GT2 Class with the KTM X-Bow GT2.
