WorldSSP 300 rider to get WorldSBK debut on Pedercini Kawasaki in Indonesia
Czech teenager Oliver Konig will jump from WorldSSP 300 to WorldSBK for the 2021 season finale in Indonesia with the Pedercini Kawasaki team
Oliver Konig will make a surprise WorldSBK Championship debut during the 2021 season finale in Indonesia as the latest rider to occupy a seat in the Pedercini Kawasaki team.
The Czech rider has just concluded his third season in the novice WorldSSP 300 class on the Movisio by MIE Kawasaki, finishing 11th in the overall standings with a best finish of third position - his maiden podium - coming on home soil at Most.
Now Konig will bookend his season with the chance to line-up alongside the the best in the world when he makes his Superbike debut, a switch that will represent a vast 300cc to 1000cc vault.
He will become the seventh rider to compete with the two-strong Outdo by TPR Kawasaki team this season, following on from Loris Cresson, Samuele Cavalieri, Luke Mossey, Jayson Uribe, Lachlan Epis, Marco Solorza and Luciano Ribodino.
“It is a great opportunity for me to end my World Superbike season with Team Pedercini. I want to thank everyone who made this possible, especially my father and my manager.
“I've ridden a bigger bike in the World Endurance Championship before, and I really enjoyed it. I know that the level in World Superbike will be much higher and I will have a lot to learn because it is very different from the Supersport 300, which is what I am used to.
“I can't wait to live this experience. I will do my best and hope it can help me for my future. Thanks again to everyone for allowing me to make this dream come true, and see you in Indonesia."
