Royal Enfield has, thanks to its range of cost-effective and attractive looking retros, become the tenth largest powered two-wheeler maker in 2024, shifting nearly one million new motorcycles globally.

The data for the report comes from Motorcycles Data (MCD), which suggests that 944,000 Royal Enfields were sold last year, bagging the Indian brand a significant global market share. Indeed, the numbers make Royal Enfield the tenth largest powered two-wheeler maker based on the volume of bikes, and if you remove specific scooters and moped makers from that equation, its market position improves to seventh.

Obviously, a significant number of Enfield’s sales came from its native India, although some emerging markets were behind a claimed 4.7 per cent growth compared to 2023. One such market was Latin America and Brazil, which MCD states grew by 14 per cent, with the South East Asian region also adding 7.3 per cent to the pot. Sales and new bike registrations in Western Europe also had a hand in the growth, adding 3.1 per cent to the 2023 data set.

While Enfield’s traditional low-capacity retros are one of the biggest draws for bikers looking for a cost-effective and good-looking new bike, its more diverse range in recent years will also likely have pulled in some new owners. With the Shotgun 650 adding an edgy cruiser to the range in 2023, and the Himalayan 450 morphing into the funky and youthful Guerilla 450, recent years have seen Royal Enfield cater for more than just the Rose Tinted riders.

The data from MCD is stated to come from new bike “sales” (vehicles invoiced) based on information from over 85 countries.
