Following the news we brought you earlier this week of Miguel Oliveira and Trackhouse Racing confirming his absence at the Japanese MotoGP, the team has now confirmed his replacement.

It's Aprilia’s official test rider Lorenzo Savadori who gets the nod to replace Oliveira, marking his first appearance for the American team.

“First of all, I want to express my hopes that Miguel can return soon and have a speedy recovery,” said Savadori.

“Regarding the Japanese Grand Prix, I haven’t ridden at Motegi since 2010, so it’s already more than 14 years ago but it's a nice track and I can’t wait to start Free Practice One. I am happy to make my debut for the Trackhouse Racing Team and we will obviously continue to work on the bike in order to improve it each time I jump on it.”

Savadori will line up alongside Spaniard Raul Fernandez, who is the only current Aprilia rider who’s set to be part of the project in 2025, outside of Savadori who will remain in his role as a test rider.

Oliveira, soon to be replaced by Ai Ogura, is moving to Pramac Yamaha in 2025, while factory riders Maverick Vinales (moving to KTM) and Aleix Espargaro (becomes Honda’s new test rider) are being replaced by Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi.

The Japanese MotoGP at Motegi will be Savadori’s fifth round of the 2024 campaign, putting him level with Honda’s Stefan Bradl. In other news, World Superbike rider Remy Gardner will wildcard for Yamaha making it his third appearance in MotoGP this year.

Only five rounds remain in the 2024 MotoGP season, with four of those taking place over the next five weeks, with Thailand, Australia, and Malaysia all following this weekend’s Japanese GP. The season will end in November with the usual season-finale at Valencia.
