Triumph Teaser Shows New 800cc Model

It’s as teasing as teasers get, but it’s definitely an 800, and almost certainly a motorcycle

Triumph has just dropped what is probably the most frustratingly teasing teaser video we have ever seen!

It’s accompanied by a press release (which gives absolutely nothing away!) but in a nutshell, the video simply shows a bike’s fuel tank/airbox cover, with a ‘Triumph’ badge decal on the upper of the airbox cover and a bold-as-brass ‘800’ decal below. Separating the two graphics is a prominent crease line, which looks like the kind of deeply sculpted shape you’d see on a sporty model, like a Street Triple, for example.

The current Street Triple, seen above, has a more rounded and flowing form to the side of the fuel tank, and further adding to our bemusement as to what the bike is, the tank seems to look more like the item found on the Tiger 900 and 850 models, of which the 850 is shown below.

It’s possible the new bike is Triumph’s attempt at an update to the Street Triple 765 it campaigns in championships such as British Supersport and WorldSSP. The current Street Triple is already the smallest three-cylinder bike in the Supersport class, behind the 798cc MV Agusta F3, and with the 890cc Yamaha R9 having been recently revealed the 765’s disadvantage in displacement currently only looks set to grow.

On the one hand, an increase from 765cc to 800cc isn’t a huge jump and would still put the Street Triple 90cc short of the new Yamaha, but it would at least close the gap and put it on more equal terms with the MV.

But, other than some pure speculation based on Triumph’s desire to remain at the front in racing, and some images that we’ve been squinting over for far too long, we can’t tell you what it is. But we don’t have to wait long to find out more — the teaser from Triumph gives us a date of 22 October when we can expect more information to be revealed.

You can find out (not much) more information on the bike here.
