University Students Build 188mph Vector-ST Electric Superbike
A group of Dutch students have built an 188mph electric superbike which rockets from 0-60mph in less than three seconds
Electric motorcycle development has grown exponentially in recent years, but this stunning Vector-ST Superbike, built by a group of students in the Netherlands, might be the coolest thing we’ve seen yet.
The top manufacturers in the world have the best equipment, best engineers, and best technical technology, but not every high-performance motorcycle needs to be developed with the biggest budgets, as a group of students from the University of Twente and the Saxion University of Applied Sciences, in the Netherlands, have produced a rocketship of an electric motorcycle.
The Vector-ST is the new bike they have conjured up and it rips around Assen in very impressive fashion during this video.
The team’s name is Electric Superbike Twente and it became an official team in 2017. Since opening its doors the Electric Superbike Twente team has built a handful of electric superbikes, but the Vector-ST might be the best one yet.
The bike produced a stunning 188mph and takes less than three seconds to go from 0-60mph. The Dutch team then took its bike to the KymiRing where it set a lap time of 2m 15s. That was set in wet conditions, but if dry, matching a MotoE bike was possible according to the team.
“Despite the rain on Saturday, we managed to get a lap time in on Sunday. With rain hitting us in the morning, we had to push our lap on rain tyres. We're proud to have hit a top speed of 271 km/h on the straight and secured a lap time of 2:15. On slicks, we could potentially shave off 10 seconds, which would bring us very close to the MotoE lap record of 2:05!”
On the front of the bike Ohlins suspension has been fitted, while the swingarm is from a Honda CBR600RR.
You may think these are projects built for fun, but these students have constructed a genuine race team and tasted success in the European Championship in 2018.
