Watch Mesmerising Lap of Le Mans With EWC Racer Niccolò Canepa
Take a look at racer Niccolò Canepa’s latest video as he spanks his Yamaha R1 around the Le Mans circuit
One very positive step forward in technology over the last 10 or 15 years is the advent of small action cameras. The tech now allows us to get views of racers plying their craft that you simply couldn’t get 20 years ago.
One rider who seems to enjoy sharing his exploits on track with the world is EWC and Superbike racer Niccolò Canepa. He’s carved out a bit of a reputation as one rider who posts some awesome videos, showing what a superbike can really do when it's ridden by a talented rider.
In his latest video, Canepa is trying out the Insta360 Ace Pro, a relatively new product from the innovative action camera maker.
Mounted to the chin-bar of Canepa’s helmet, the little Insta gives a proper rider’s-eye-view of the Le Mans circuit, and with the Field of View (FoV) wound right up, the viewer can see much more of the track than you would with a conventional camera. What that does to the footage is heighten the feeling of speed - not that it was really needed - and even when he’s trickling down the pit lane at the speed limit of 60kph (37mph) it looks as though he’s already doing 100mph!
The video was shot during one of the practice sessions for the Le Mans 24-Hour Motos test, a race in which he’s competing for the factory-backed YART Yamaha Official Team EWC, the reigning FIM Endurance World Champions.
The Le Mans 24 Hour takes place this weekend (18-21 April) and is the opening round of the 2024 Endurance World Championship, which will head to Spa, Suzuka, and Paul Ricard later in the year.
