Used: Buffalo Thermosport Gloves review

Reliably waterproof winter gloves for under £50

Brand

FACT: You don’t need to spend top dollar to get top quality. These winter gloves are proof.

They cost £49.99 at the beginning of 2009. They’ve endured three-and-a-half freezing winters and thousands of miles of use, including regular long trips on the motorway in rain, sleet, freezing fog and snow. Amazingly, they are still 100% waterproof.

I can’t tell you they will keep your hands warm on long winter rides. What gloves will? You need heated grips or muffs for that.

But provided the gauntlets are tucked into the cuffs of a waterproof jacket, your hands will at least stay dry, which is half the battle.

I recently rode for an hour-and-a-half in heavy rain and was surprised to note they still don’t let in a drop. They’re showing their age a bit. The left index finger has a hole in the leather outer, worn by thousands if clutch changes.

But the waterproof membrane is still intact.

The gloves are still the same price today but I was slightly disappointed to note the waterproof membrane has changed. The ones in my gloves are made by a British firm called Porelle. The latest version uses Buffalo's own membrane. Then again, who’s to say they’re not just as good?

Well, you actually. If you’ve got the latest ones, and they’re not as good, tell us.

Price: £49.99
