Vanucci VUT-7 Motorcycle Jeans Review: AAA-Rated Option Tested
These Jeans offer plenty of protection and comfort, but they aren’t cheap
If you want the comfort and casual look of a pair of riding jeans without compromising too much in terms of safety, you want to opt for some with the top-level AAA rating. You’ll pay more, but be much better protected should the worst happen. One AAA option is the Vanucci VUT-7, which I’ve had on test for hundreds of miles in a variety of different conditions.
They’re a single-layer pair of jeans (made from T-TEX-Pro or ‘Twaron Single Layer Technology’), which means they don’t have additional protective layers sewn in, making them less bulky and more comfortable. Included in the price is not just knee armour, but hip armour too.
Key features
- Knee armour
- Hip armour
- Single-layer construction
- Five pockets
They’re a really comfortable pair of jeans to slip on and wear for long days in the saddle and have become my preferred kit if I’m riding somewhere and spending a lot of time off the bike. The lightness and comfort are big factors, but also, unlike a lot of riding jeans, it’s not all that obvious they’re specifically made for biking.
This is helped by how thin the knee armour pads are. They’re long, though, covering much of your shins as well as the knees. The hip armour pads are subtle too, both in terms of aesthetics (you can’t see them bulging out), and wear. A couple of times now I’ve been sat on reasonably long flights to international motorbike launches in the jeans (because I’ve ridden down to the airport), and not minded at all.
I opted for a pair of 31-inch waist/33-inch leg test sample, which wears as expected. It’s worth noting, though, that the cuffs are not wide enough to fit over riding boots, which might be off-putting depending on your preference. For me, I’m not keen on the look of jeans tucked under boots, but for you, maybe that’s not a problem.
The quality of the jeans seems high, and after a reasonable amount of use, I haven’t spotted any premature signs of wear.
Should you buy Vanucci VUT-7 riding jeans?
While the quality and comfort of the VUT-7 jeans are impressive, but the price might raise eyebrows. The RRP of £247.36 makes them expensive even as far as AAA options go, and although Vanucci’s exclusive retailer Louis Moto frequently discounts products, the price at the time of writing was a still chunky £206.13.
We’d recommend keeping an eye on the price for a little while before pulling the trigger. As far as the general buying experience from Louis, postage to the UK from Germany costs £8.25, but the current price is beyond the £199 free postage threshold.
Delivery to the UK generally only takes a few days, and the retailer offers to pay any unexpected customs charges.
