The government has granted the Competition and Markets Authority new powers to help it monitor petrol prices and improve competition in the market.

The Competition and Markets Authority has concluded that petrol retailers are still not offering road users the best price at the pumps, despite an overall drop in the wholesale price of fuel.

The CMA is claiming that a petrol price comparison website could help to ignite some competition in the market and help drivers get a better deal
