One of the most original race replica 1991 Honda VFR750R RC30 motorcycles still around, this unrestored bike is set to go up for auction courtesy of Iconic Auctioneers in May.

Built with a twin-spar alloy beam frame, the powerful liquid-cooled V4 engine with gear-driven cams helps produce a claimed 112bhp at 11500rpm although race kitted versions of the bike were capable of up to 145bhp.

The RC30 model features the same engine that was found in the VFR750F, but beyond that the similarities are few and far between as the 750R was very much its own motorcycle, and as such was developed in that way.

The RC edition features a more compact build as well as closer spacing between the cams which helped reduce friction losses by a huge 40 per cent compared to the F model, according to Honda. The bike’s inlet tracts were also straightened to improve air flow. Like the RVF, the RC’s four-into-one exhaust system is paired with a left-sided silencer.

Estimated at around £25,000-£30,000, the bike will be auctioned off complete with its original paddock stand, owners handbook, service book, two keys, tool kit, old MOTs, old V5Cs, various period newspaper and magazine articles and receipts. However, it’s also worth pointing out that the original paintwork shows some micro blisters in the lacquer.

The bike has been unused for the last two years and instead has been kept in storage. It is also UK-registered from new, has been with the same owner since 2011 and has covered 9,000 miles.

Honda built the Honda VFR750R RC30 with the intention of dominating the World Superbike Championship during the late 1980s and 1990s and while it did just that by winning the first two championships held, further success beyond 1989 was hard to come by.

However, the bike did enjoy plenty of TT success in the hands of British racing legend Carl Fogarty, who won the road race on a couple of occasions with the 1991 VFR750R RC30, before going on to win four World Superbike titles after with Ducati.
