Aprilia is reintroducing the Shiver 900 model more than half a decade after being shelved due to wavering sales and the introduction of Euro 5 regulations, but it will only be manufactured and sold in China.

When a bike gets discontinued it’s rare to see it resurrected, especially when its production was halted due to limited demand, but the Shiver 900 is now back in business although no signs point to an arrival in the UK any time soon.

Efforts to bring the Shiver 900 back to life started in 2022 when Aprilia’s parent company Piaggio and Chinese brand Zongshen would begin working together to bring forward a new 900cc twin-cylinder motorcycle.

Around the same time, there was an Aprilia Shiver 900 prototype featuring the Gilera name across various parts of the bike such as its instruments and headlights. In 2023 there were further signs that a potential Shiver 900 with the Gilera name could go into production, as was the case for a V-twin bike created by Piaggio and Zongshen, however, the new Shiver 900 has stayed true to its roots and kept the Aprilia name and badge.

The 2025 Aprilia Shiver 900 is a combination of the two designs mentioned above, with new side panels that were first seen on the GLR900 design being implemented. However, the new Shiver 900 does not feature the same side-by-side headlights that were previewed on the GLR900, instead the new model receives an updated LED version of the original headlamp concept.

New features include the addition of a keyless ignition with a “smart key” button that replaces the usual ignition switch. But changes are few and far between compared to the previous iteration of the Shiver 900 as the bike stays largely the same.

The new 2025 Shiver 900 is not cheap by any means as it’s listed at 68,800 Chinese Yuan (roughly £7,500). That puts it in a more expensive bracket than its fellow Chinese competitors such as CFMoto’s 800NK model. Power figures for the new Shiver 900 come in at 94bhp at 8750rpm (800NK makes 100bhp) and 66Ib ft of torque at 6500rpm.
