Aprilia Signs Lorenzo Savadori to Stay as MotoGP Test Rider
Lorenzo Savadori will remain as Aprilia’s official MotoGP test rider in 2025 after agreeing a new two-year deal
The new two-year agreement between Lorenzo Savadori and Aprilia means the Italian will continue his role as official MotoGP test rider for the Noale brand until the end of 2026.
Savadori has been with Aprilia Racing since 2020, and during that time as a test rider has amassed 29 Grand Prix appearances, through wildcard entries and standing in for injured riders, which was again the case in 2024 as he replaced Miguel Oliveira for a total of four rounds at Trackhouse Racing.
The 2026 MotoGP season will see Savadori complete his seventh season with Aprilia as its test rider, before the new regulations land in 2027.
“I am extremely happy to continue this adventure and to pursue my work along with Aprilia Racing for the next two seasons,” Savadori said. “In recent years, we have done an outstanding job, and I am certain that we will continue to improve more and more.
“Our growth has been consistent, step-by-step, with a rather clear goal that we always have at the forefront of our minds: contributing to taking the RS-GP to the top of MotoGP.”
Savadori has played a key role in helping Aprilia become a factor towards the front of the MotoGP grid, in fact, Aprilia was the only manufacturer outside of Ducati to win a Grand Prix and sprint race in 2024.
Aprilia will have an all-new factory team in 2025 with reigning world champion Jorge Martin and fellow Ducati rider Marco Bezzecchi coming aboard, while at Trackhouse Racing, rookie, and current Moto2 champion, Ai Ogura will partner the only full-time rider in Aprilia’s stable with previous experience of the RS-GP, Raul Fernandez.
That all means that retaining Savadori was all the more important, as he knows the bike just as well as anyone following the departures of Maverick Vinales (KTM) and Aleix Espargaro (Honda test rider and now cycling ambassador for Lidl-Trek).
Aprilia Racing CEO, Massimo Rivola, added: “We are proud to confirm that Aprilia Racing will continue working with Lorenzo Savadori, one of the pillars of our project which, along with the test team, has allowed for the extraordinary development of recent years,” Rivola said.
“‘Sava’ also represents continuity for us – a fundamental aspect of working with a highly trusted test rider, especially in such an important year where two new riders will be joining the factory team.
“He will also be a valuable resource at some Grands Prix, where we will continue to see him as a wild card with experimental solutions.”
