Bikers Lifestyle Ltd has been handed a £10,000 fine after selling dangerous motorcycle helmets that failed to meet the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

The company was found guilty of seven different offences at Willesden Magistrates Court on 20 January 2025 and as a result was ordered to pay over £10,000 in fines and costs.

As well as selling dangerous helmets, the (DVSA) has successfully prosecuted Bikers Lifestyle Ltd for selling motorcycle helmets that failed to meet the required UK safety standards for eye protection.

According to the GOV.UK website, tests have revealed that three out of four helmets from the company failed to meet safety requirements catastrophically, with one helmet recording results that indicated a 100 per cent risk of fatality in a collision.

DVSA’s Market Surveillance Unit carried out the tests at an independent laboratory that specialises in motorcycle helmet testing.

The magistrates concluded that there was a high degree of culpability and determined there was a high risk of harm to consumers. Bikers Lifestyle Ltd must also remove all non-compliant products from its range.

Furthermore, it has been required to recall the helmets sold that do not comply with UK safety standards.

The company has been forced to pay several fines which include £4,000 for helmet-related offences (£1,000 per helmet), £1,500 for eye protection offences (£500 per item), £2,000 victim surcharge, £2,694 prosecution costs. Overall, the fines and costs came to £10,194.

In charge of the DVSA investigation lead, Sadie Clarke, said: “Sub-standard helmets and eyewear pose a very real and significant risk to any motorcycle rider using them.

“Tests on items sold by Bikers Lifestyle Ltd showed they would be incapable of offering the necessary protection required in the event of an accident and the consequences could be catastrophic.”
