Deal of the Day: £1,100 Off a Brand New Royal Enfield Super Meteor
A bargain at full price, you can’t argue with a bit of money off a Super Meteor like this
In terms of bang for buck, the products of Royal Enfield are hard to beat. The Super Meteor 650 looks like a particular bargain, with prices starting at just £6,799, rising to a still very reasonable £7,299 for the snazzier colours. With some shopping around, though, you can pay even less than that.
The Interstellar Grey example you see here would normally retail for £6,999, but Iron City Motorcycles currently has it up for £5,899, a saving of £1,100, or about 16 per cent. It’s not an ex-demo, either - what you’re looking at is a brand-spanking new bike.
For just under £6,000, you’re getting a comfortable cruiser that looks the part and will comfortably munch away the miles. It’s powered by Royal Enfield’s widely used 648cc parallel twin, which features a 270-degree crankshaft to give an offset firing order. In other words, there’ll be a suitably burbly exhaust note.
It produces 47bhp and 38.7lb ft of torque, meaning it’s A2 license-compliant out of the box. Given that the bike weighs 241kg, this isn’t going to be a rocketship, but it’ll be brisk enough for most, and in any case, for a laid-back bike like this, a modest power figure is just fine. The fuel economy should be decent, too, meaning the 15.7-litre fuel tank should go quite far between petrol station visits.
Unlike a lot of Royal Enfield’s bikes, you get an upside-down fork here, in this case, one from Showa with 43mm stanchions and 120mm of travel. In keeping with the bike’s character, there are twin shocks at the rear, featuring five levels of preload.
The bike can be picked up from any of Iron City’s dealerships, which are in Gateshead, Leeds, and South Shields.
